I have a public relations/marketing communications background, and am a lifelong volunteer.  I’ve lived in the Como Park area since 1996, and I’m gratified to have the opportunity to use my skills and knowledge on behalf of the Block Nurse Program and its vital, life-enhancing mission.

Pam Van Zyl York, Sect.

As a member of the Board of Directors of the Como Park/Falcon Heights Living At Home Block Nurse Program, I have been able to contribute to my community and support an organization that is making a difference for older adults.  As a public health professional, I know the importance of community organizations in linking people with the continuum of services they need.  I appreciate the opportunity to contribute my knowledge and skills in helping the organization grow and continue to meet the ever-changing needs of our neighbors.

Mary Nienaber, Treasurer

I am a Roseville resident and a retired HR professional. I earned an MA in HR from the U of M many moons ago, and spent my working life in health care and higher education. I am excited about finding ways I can contribute to the organization as the mission is so near and dear to my heart.

Susan Majerus, Out-going Chair

I am delighted to give back to my senior community by volunteering and as a board member. I look forward to assisting older neighbors with technology and telehealth options and embrace continuous change as it relates to client and stakeholder needs.

Nancy Houlton, Board Member

I am honored to serve on the board of the Como Park/Falcon Heights Living at Home Block Nurse Program.  The commitment to strengthening client resilience on multiple levels, physical, social and emotional well being within the community called to me.  I bring my years of experience in behavioral health organization to the board and in turn am filled by stories of how we have a positive impact for our neighbors.

Ed Lecher, Chair

I am the current Director of the Senior Services (SSB) program at MN State Services for the Blind. SSB is a state agency that provides vision rehabilitation services for seniors and others who are adapting to vision loss and attempting to continue living independent lives. I have been in that role for ten years and at the agency for 17 years. My educational background is in Public Administration. I have lived in Como since 2004. I am thrilled to be part of this terrific organization.

Elizabeth Postigo, Board Member

Elizabeth has lived in Falcon Heights most of her life. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, and spent 9 years in Mexico City teaching English. She also spent 25 years working on the U of MN St. Paul campus. Elizabeth worked 15 years at the US Census Bureau doing ongoing census surveys, and is now retired. She has a son, daughter-in-law, and grand-dog, Rosie!  Elizabeth has served on two boards for Early American Antique Glass. She is very honored to be chosen to serve on this board.

Board Member Quick Overview

If you live in Como Park or Falcon Heights and have a financial, technological, marketing, or healthcare background, please consider joining our team and helping us form a course of action that directly benefits an entire community.

For over 30 years, ComoConnects has provided support and services to seniors 65 and better in the Como Park/Falcon Heights area.  We assist them to live safely and joyfully in the home and community they love.  We are a 501c3 and not affiliated with any religious institution.

Board responsibilities include volunteering 2-3 hours each month on a project within the organization.  You will work collectively with others to best meet the needs of a growing population of seniors.  Board members help with two fundraisers per year.  Our fundraisers include parking cars for the State Fair.

Our board members live, work, or worship in the community, have a family member living here, or have a strong desire to make the Como Park and Falcon Heights neighborhoods a great place to live and age.  They play a key role in strengthening and monitoring programs, services, providing financial oversight, helping with fundraising and helping plan for the future.
